I’m Monique Preston. I’m a proofreader, copy editor, and actress based in beautiful Seattle, Washington. One of my favorite things in the world is to craft amazing written works, and I am so blessed I get to do that everyday by helping others shape their written pieces.
- Everyone is capable of being a good writer.
- Everyone has a unique voice that deserves to be heard.
- Everyone should have the chance to share what they have to say.
- Stories from all walks of life need to be told.
The purpose of Second Glance is to help your document look polished and professional while still maintaining your authentic style. The four philosophies mentioned above are near and dear to me; they’ve stuck with me throughout my journey in creating Second Glance.
In the beginning…
Before becoming a proofreader and copy editor, I was working in the dental field and earning my degree in dental hygiene. I quickly became the go-to individual for assistance on the research papers us students were required to write in the program. Many of the students hadn’t written academic essays in years and felt they couldn’t get any better. Once I broke down their essays, they discovered their writing capabilities, and I realized that not all good writing has the same style.
While taking a break from acting to attend school, I became attracted to the screenwriting process. I soaked up tips from veteran screenwriters and learned about the process of screenplay selection. I was amazed that so many engaging screenplays end up being rejected because of grammatical and formatting errors. It also made me reflect on the poorly formatted scripts I had seen and worked with as an actress.
I became very aware of my entrepreneurial spirit while I was in school. I left the dental hygiene program in winter 2017 to pursue the freelance lifestyle and tried my hand at writing before I discovered Caitlin Pyle’s Proofread Anywhere course. I graduated in November 2017 with a certificate of completion in General Proofreading: Theory and Practice, and Second Glance was born!
Today I continue to act in the Seattle area and assist students and screenwriters with their written works. I work with screenwriters of all levels and students in a variety of academic disciplines. My hope is to carry the four philosophies I previously mentioned with me as I help clients create a finished product they are proud to submit.
